“I want to be a single gesture that contrasts with the horizon of those snow walls. I want to be the guide that you see in the distance within this eternal winter. "
The project is a refuge for boths, pilgrims who make the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, a unique and spectacular route that goes through the Alps of northern Japan; and tourists who visit the Hakkoda Mountains located in Aomori. Both places have a particular characteristic in common, huge snow walls.
The refuge seeks to contrast with the horizontality created by the snow walls, which reach more than 20 meters in height. It is a concrete monolith that becomes the guide to the distance within the eternal winter of the place.
